Attach and manage supporting documents in Workpapers

Each audit area's page is that area's working paper. The Workpapers tab holds the supporting documents, such as a scanned voucher or a confirmation reply, each attached to the finding or the audit area it supports.

Before you begin

Open the correct engagement and confirm the finding or audit area the document supports. A finding must already be in the Findings register; an audit area must be one that Audit scope applies. A document supports exactly one of the two. Have the file ready as PDF, Excel (.xlsx), Word (.docx), CSV, JPG or PNG. Do not use filenames or titles containing passwords, tax IDs or unnecessary personal information.

Since 14 October 2026 IndiaAuditLens no longer writes summary workpapers. The papers it generated before then stay in the tab as read-only history, labelled Generated before 14 Oct 2026.

Attach a document

You can attach a document in three places; the same form opens each time:

On an open finding in Review → Findings, under Supporting documents, click Attach a document. The finding is already chosen. On an audit area's page, open the Evidence and findings tab and click Attach a document. The area is already chosen. In Review → Workpapers, click Attach a document and choose what it supports.

Enter a specific Title. Under Supports, choose A finding or An audit area, then pick it from the list. Choose the Type: Evidence, Computation, Confirmation, Representation, Checklist or Memo. Add an optional Description. Choose the File and click Attach.

The document receives a reference such as WP-EV-001 and is listed on the finding or area it supports and in Review → Workpapers.

Find and maintain documents

Open Review → Workpapers. Read the counts: documents attached to findings, to audit areas and, for older uploads, not attached. Narrow the list with the search box, the Supports filter (attached to findings, attached to audit areas, not attached) or the type tabs. Click the link in the Supports column to open the finding or the area page. To move a document, click Change what it supports (pencil icon), choose the finding or area and click Save. For a document marked Not attached, click Attach in the same column. Download a file from the File column. To link two documents, open…

Review documents (engagements not on the audit programme)

On an engagement that uses the audit programme, supporting documents need no review: the audit area's sign-off is the review. The review column, its filter and Bulk Review do not appear.

An engagement that does not use the audit programme keeps the older rule, because its manager sign-off still needs every workpaper reviewed. There a manager or above:

Clicks Review on the row. Selects Reviewed or Needs Revision, adds actionable notes and clicks Save Review. For several documents, ticks the rows and uses Bulk Review. Reviewed documents and papers generated before 14 Oct 2026 cannot be selected.

Read a paper generated before 14 Oct 2026

On a row of type Generated before 14 Oct 2026, click Preview (eye icon). Read the generated content, its references and limitations. Where it holds an automated check's schedule, click Download Excel to review the rows offline.

These papers cannot be edited, re-attached, regenerated or deleted, and they never wait for review. Instead of saving an AuditIQ answer as a workpaper, bookmark it or raise it as a finding from the answer itself.

Roll forward from a prior engagement

Confirm the correct prior engagement and your access to it (Manager or above). Click Roll Forward, enter the prior engagement's ID and click Roll Forward. Read the created and skipped counts. Documents whose reference already exists here are skipped; papers generated before 14 Oct 2026 are not copied. Each copy shows Rolled Forward and keeps the audit area it supports, but not its finding: attach it to one of this year's findings with Attach or Change what it supports. Check every carried document for current-year relevance before relying on it.

Expected result

Every supporting document is attached to the finding or audit area it supports and opens from there; the Workpapers tab lists them all with what each supports; papers generated before 14 Oct 2026 remain readable history; and, on an engagement not on the audit programme, every workpaper is reviewed before the manager sign-off.
