Before you begin
Confirm the client’s legal identity, PAN, entity type, and residential status. Know the assessment year and available filing kind. Gather the previous return, AIS/TIS, Form 26AS, certificates, books, and form-specific evidence. Resolve uncertain applicability facts instead of answering No to obtain a simpler form.
Start the return
Open the client and choose Returns → Income Tax (ITR) → ITR Register. Select Start ITR. Choose an assessment year and an available Original or Belated filing kind. Review the frozen taxpayer name, masked PAN, entity type, assessment year and filing kind. Confirm the identity and create the case.
Only filing kinds currently enabled by the server can be started. Previous-year rule and schema packages may remain attached to retained cases, but AuditLens does not turn a closed filing window into an ITR-U case.
Confirm the form and regime
Answer every applicability question. Do not leave an unknown fact as an assumed No. Review the suggested form and its reason. Select only a permitted form. Statutorily impossible selections are rejected. Choose the tax regime where it applies. Save the setup before entering form-specific details.
The workspace routes eligible individual, business, entity and exempt-institution cases across ITR-1, ITR-2, ITR-3, ITR-4, ITR-5 and ITR-7. A company that requires ITR-6 is stopped with an explicit unavailable message.
Import reviewed sources
Open Import & reconcile → Source files. The Portal Bridge can sign in, navigate to the selected official statement and start its Firefox download. After the download finishes, select that file in IndiaAuditLens and preview it. Review proposed values under Review & apply, and use Applied history to confirm what has already changed the return. Supported lanes include, as applicable:
official prefill or previous-return JSON; AIS/TIS and Form 26AS; Form 16 or 16A; broker capital-gains data; depreciation, bank-interest and institution templates; and reviewed AuditLens books or financial-statement data for ITR-3, ITR-5 and ITR-7.
Review every proposed mapping and apply only the accepted suggestions. The server binds the import to the client, PAN, assessment year, return revision and source checksum. It rejects a stale, altered, duplicate or cross-taxpayer receipt. Unresolved rows remain visible; AuditLens does not guess a tax head, business classification, cost, holding period or statutory election.
IndiaAuditLens does not read files from the device or intercept portal response content. The CA must select every downloaded source through the file upload control.
Complete the return particulars
Open Filing details and complete the taxpayer, address, filing, bank and verification particulars. Then continue through Income, Deductions, Taxes paid and Computation. The available fields depend on the selected form and include the applicable income, credit, accounts, capital-gain, loss, depreciation, entity and exemption schedules.
Save and calculate after the material facts are complete. A missing statutory fact produces a field-linked message; it is not silently replaced by zero or an inferred answer.
Expected result
The correct client, PAN, assessment year, filing kind, form and regime are retained with reviewed sources and form-specific particulars. Every imported number has source provenance, and unresolved or incompatible facts remain visible before calculation and filing review.
