Open, import, and validate a TDS or TCS return

Use the TDS/TCS workspace to select a deductor registration, import one financial year's source records, open the required form and quarter, and clear its readiness checks. Importing data does not file a return.

Before you begin

Add the client's TAN under Client → TAN Registrations. Confirm the financial year, return form, quarter, deductor details, and source ownership. Use 24Q for salary TDS, 26Q for resident non-salary TDS, 27Q for non-resident payments, and 27EQ for TCS only after checking statutory applicability. Obtain the approved register/workbook and challan evidence. Do not infer a PAN, BSR code, challan serial, deposit date, section, or payment amount.

Open the workspace and set scope

Open the client and choose Returns → TDS/TCS. Select TAN when the client has more than one registration. Select the Financial year. Open Quarters for the full grid, or choose 24Q, 26Q, 27Q, or 27EQ for a form-specific view. Review Quarters with data, Returns ready, In progress, and Total TDS · FY. Open Q1, Q2, Q3, or Q4. If you used Quarters, select the form tab inside the quarter.

If No TAN on record appears, return to the client registrations and add the deductor TAN. If the grid has no rows, open the quarter and use Data to import the source.

Import a non-salary or TCS register

Open the required form and quarter, then choose Data. Click Template and populate the approved CSV/XLSX format; or use one of the books-source options described below. Click Import register and select the file. Review the created, updated, and row-error counts. Correct every rejected/malformed value in the source and re-import. Malformed PAN/TAN values can be reported and left blank; they are not silently made filing-ready.

The general register import is once per TAN and financial year. AuditLens assigns records across forms and quarters from their section and period. Re-open the quarter grid after importing and confirm the distribution; do not assume every row reached the intended return.

Import deductions from books

On Data, you can also:

Import and maintain Form 24Q data

For 24Q, Data has Import, Employees, and Challans tabs.

On Import, download and complete the approved salary workbook. Import the workbook and review validation results before continuing. Open Employees and confirm employee identity, PAN, employment period, salary components, tax regime, deductions/exemptions, tax computation, and source linkage. Open Challans and confirm CIN/BSR, challan serial, deposit date, amount, interest/fee where applicable, and employee/deduction allocations. Resolve unlinked, short, excess, duplicate, or cross-quarter allocations using the underlying evidence. Do not force a tie-out by changing the source total.

Q1–Q3 salary computation is a projected annual position; Q4 is the final Annexure-II computation. Update projections when salary, regime, relief, previous-employer, exemption, or deduction data changes.

Review and validate source records

Choose Compute and click Run parity check when provider credits and the firm-approved workflow allow it. Review every mismatch between AuditLens and the provider calculator. A successful API call is not a substitute for resolving an incorrect rate, nature, regime, or amount. Choose Validate → Return working. Review Return readiness, including ready/blocked rows, the current form count, and missing TAN, PAN, section, challan, or deposit-date fields. Review the return working: deductor, deductees, challans, total tax, generation readiness, and section 234E fee where shown. Review the…

Some provider-backed checks consume credits; the stored result view does not. Confirm scope and source freshness before re-running a paid check.

Expected result

The quarter/form shows the correct rows, readiness counts and return working, with no unresolved blocking source or challan error. The return is ready for package generation and maker-checker review; it is not filed.
