Prepare, approve, issue, and download the audit report

Before you begin

Open the correct engagement and confirm that the audit areas, findings, misstatements and going-concern work are current. These four stop the report from going for approval. Set up the engagement team on the Team tab: it decides who approves the report and in what order. Without a team, a partner of the firm approves and issues it. Check the firm's report branding: the signing partner, membership number and place start from it. Know your part: people who prepare the report write it and send it for approval; the approvers follow the team set-up; the engagement Partner decides the opinion,…

Open Report Studio and start the report

Open the engagement and select Finalise → Report Studio. If the report shows Not started, click Start the report. Its paragraphs are written from the audit file, the client profile and standard wording, including the report on other legal and regulatory requirements. Read the report from the top. The header shows its one state (Draft, or Draft · n to write while n paragraphs are empty), the contents list each part with its state, and Preview PDF opens the report as it prints. When the audit file changes, choose More actions → Refresh from the audit file. Every paragraph no person has…

The report's text changes only while it is a draft. To change it later, an approver sends it back or the Partner reopens it.

Clear Before approval

Before approval, under the header, lists the six items that stop the report. Click an item to open the place where it is fixed; All close checks opens Sign-off and close, which shows the same list.

Sending for approval needs the first four; the Partner's approval also needs the opinion; issuing needs all six. Nothing on the list can be overridden.

A signed letter received before the SA 450 evaluation changed shows Signed · out of date, with the evaluation then and now. It represents a summary of uncorrected misstatements that is no longer the one evaluated (SA 450 para 14), so it also stops sending and approving: click Ask client for a new letter in Download. Once the report date is entered, the letter's received date is shown against it: the letter is dated as near as practicable to, but not after, the date of the auditor's report (SA 580 para 14), so check the date on the letter itself.

Review each paragraph

Every paragraph carries where it came from:

Going concern, emphasis of matter and key audit matters have a paragraph only when the audit calls for one; a finding closed in Findings to be reported as an emphasis of matter or a key audit matter is one way. Select one of them in the contents to see why it has none and where that is decided. A paragraph that still holds the template's instruction, such as [Auditor to complete …], shows To write. Until the going concern assessment is signed off, Going concern shows Waiting for going concern, never Not required; Refresh to add means the audit file now calls for the paragraph, so use…

Click a paragraph or its chip. The right-hand column shows its source, who edited it and when. Click Edit wording (or Write paragraph for one still to write), change the heading or text, and click Save. The paragraph becomes Edited and a later refresh keeps it. Where Draft with AI is offered (a modified opinion and its basis, emphasis of matter, going concern, key audit matters), use it only as a starting point: edit the draft against the evidence and save it. The report cannot be sent for approval while a paragraph is still AI suggested · not reviewed. Where a paragraph still to write…

Decide the opinion (engagement Partner)

Open the Opinion view: click Decide opinion on the opinion paragraph, or the Opinion item of Before approval. Read The evidence: uncorrected misstatements against overall materiality (from the SA 450 evaluation), the going-concern assessment and the findings still open. Choose Unmodified, Qualified, Adverse or Disclaimer of opinion. The choice marked Suggested comes from the Findings register, the SA 450 evaluation and the signed going-concern assessment; it is a prompt, not the decision. A choice the signed going-concern assessment does not allow cannot be selected. For an unmodified…

The decision, who made it and when, the reason and what the evidence showed are kept with the report, and the opinion and basis paragraphs follow it. A modified opinion needs its basis paragraph written. While the report is with the approvers the opinion cannot change; an approved or issued report must be sent back or reopened first.

Complete the legal requirements and the annexures

Open Other legal requirements from the contents. It shows whether CARO 2020 applies, whether the report on internal financial controls (Annexure B) is required and whether the company must prepare a cash flow statement, each with its reason and basis. Where an answer reads To confirm, click Confirm facts and answer the facts the client profile and the statements do not hold (small, dormant and start-up status are best recorded in the client profile, Profile & KYC › Classification). You confirm facts, never the conclusion; the answer follows. Review each section 143(3), section 197(16) and…

Check the statements and notes

Open Financial statements from the contents. Each statement is Final, Draft or Not generated; the current year's final statement prints, otherwise the newest draft, which keeps the DRAFT mark. Use Preview, or Generate for a missing balance sheet or profit and loss. Open Notes. For a note, Edit wording prints your wording in place of the generated note, Clear wording prints the generated note again, and Draft with AI on a disclosure note saves a suggestion for you to keep or edit. Generate again does not keep edited wording.

Complete the signing details

Choose More actions → Signing details. Check Firm line, Signing partner, Membership number and Place, then click Save.

Signing details can be changed while the report is a draft. Issuing needs the signing partner's name and membership number; the UDIN, the report date and the place are entered when the Partner issues the report.

Send for approval, approve and issue

Since 14 Oct 2026 the report goes through the engagement team's approvals, and the Partner issues it.

Send for approval (a person who prepares the report). It becomes possible once the close list's audit areas, findings, misstatements and going concern are done, no paragraph is left to write, no AI-suggested paragraph is left unreviewed and Annexures A and B have nothing left to do; until then the button lists what is missing. The confirm step lists who approves, in order, and takes an optional note. Approve report (the approver the report waits for, shown in Approvals from the team). There is one approval for each team level above the people who prepared or edited the report and the…

The platform checks only the UDIN's format (18 letters or digits); it does not verify with ICAI that the UDIN was issued for this document. Issuing does not sign the PDF digitally and sends nothing to the client.

Reopen an issued report

Download the files

Click Download in the header. Read What goes into the package: each part with its state, such as a statement still a draft or paragraphs still to write. For the representation letter, click Ask client for the signed letter if it has not been asked for, or Ask client for a new letter when the signed one is out of date. It records a request in Client requests; nothing is sent to the client, so ask by email, letter or in a meeting, and record and accept what comes back there. The letter for signature lists the misstatements closed as Not corrected in Findings; when its total differs from the…

Until the Partner issues the report, every page of every file is marked DRAFT and the UDIN and report date read "added on issue". The full package prints the client's signed representation letter once it is accepted in Client requests; until then it prints the letter for signature.
