Applies to
Firm users authorised to maintain engagement methodology. Settings → Customization → Document Templates → Engagement Letter (SA 210). Future generations for the firm. Previously generated, accepted or downloaded letters remain as their existing artifacts.
Before you begin
Obtain the firm's approved SA 210 terms, fee wording, termination terms and jurisdiction wording. Confirm which engagement types and entity types the wording is intended to cover. Decide whether fee terms belong in the template or in a separately approved engagement-specific agreement. Do not place a real client's fee in the firm-wide template. Prepare a synthetic engagement for testing placeholders and the generated DOCX/PDF layout.
Edit the template
Navigate to Settings → Customization → Document Templates. Select Engagement Letter (SA 210). Review whether the page shows Using defaults or a customized-section count. Locate a section and click Edit. Review or change Section title. Edit Content, retaining supported placeholders and simple HTML structure. Expand View default content and compare the full system text before replacing it. Click Apply to stage the section override. Repeat for other approved sections. Click Save template and wait for Template saved successfully.
Supported template data
The current system definitions use {engagementtype}, {companyname}, {financialyear}, {periodstart}, {periodend} and {signingplace}. The Fees section also identifies {feeamount} as an optional placeholder. Use only placeholders supported by the generator and complete their engagement source fields before generation.
Test and approve the template
Open a synthetic/test engagement with a known type, period and signing place. Generate a new draft Engagement Letter. Verify the engagement type, company, financial year, dates and place. Confirm the scope and reporting outputs match the test engagement's applicability. Review paragraph/list formatting, signatures, branding, pagination and filename. Search the draft for unresolved {placeholder} text. Have the methodology owner approve the generated output, not only the Settings preview.
Reset wording
To reset one section, open it, click Reset, confirm, then click Save template. To remove every firm override for this template, click Reset all to defaults and confirm the destructive action. Generate a new test draft after either reset. Existing letters and acceptances do not roll back.
Expected result
A newly generated synthetic Engagement Letter contains the approved firm wording, correct engagement values and intact SA 210 responsibilities, while earlier engagement artifacts remain unchanged.
